La diversidad se define como el estado de ser diverso, teniendo variedad. La diversidad es aparente en muchos aspectos del suelo. Dos ejemplos de la diversidad del suelo son los diferentes ordenes de suelo y la biodiversidad del suelo. &lt;br /&gt;

Los Estados Unidos exhiben un amplio grupo de ordenes de suelos, como se muestran en la imagen de la izqueirda. Las ordenes incluidas en este mapa son: Alfisoles, Andisoles, Aridsoles, Entisoles, istosoles, Incepitsoles, Molisoles, Oxisoles, spodosoles, Ultisoles y Vertisoles. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los alfisoles tienen una base saturacion sobre 35% y tienen norizontes de subsuelo en riquecidos con arcilla. Este tipo de suelo se encuentra tipicamente bajo los bosques y vegetacion de las sabana. Los alfisoles son generalmente fertile, con produccion de nieveles similares a los molisoles y ulitsoles. Ellos son tipicamente abundantes en nutrients con cations de Ca, Mg, K, Na. Ellos componen cerca del 10% de areas libres de hielo del mundo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los andocoles se forman sobre areas de reciente volcanismo y son hechos a partir de materiales volcanicos piroclasticos con propiedades quimicas unicas. Ellos han limitado la distribucion geografica, pero tienen una productividad potencialmente alta debido a su tendencia de acumular material organico y son facilmente cultivados, y pierden desarrollo en los horizontes del suelo y no son los tipicamente erosionades amplimente. Ellos forman cerca del 1% de las areas libre de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los arisoles son suelos en climas aridos que tienen una alteracion quimica y erosion visible. Tiene una acumulacion frecuente de CaCO3 (Trioxicarbonato de calcio) y NaCl (sal), pero normalmente tienen pocas cantidades de contenido de materia organica. Los aridsoles normalmente son deficientes en aqua y no permiten el crecimiento de cultivos sin irrigacion. Sin irrigacion y fertilizacion, la produccion de aridisoles son generalmente bajas. Ellos forman el 12% de las areas libre de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los entisoles pierden desarrollo en el horizonte de suelos. Este tipo de suelo puede ser formado desde una amplia variedad de material parental, hacienda sus propoedades y productividad variadas. Estos suelos se encuentran frecuentemente en medio ambiente secos o frios, comunmente se les encuentra con los aridisoles. Los entisoles muy productivos se encuentran en las planicies aluviales, mientras que la baja productividad en este suelo se encuentra sobre pendientes pronunciadas o areas arenosas. Ellos forman el 16% delas areas libre de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los histosoles son suelos que principalmente estan compuestos de materiales organicos. La materia organica se acumula porque el suelo usualmente esta muy saturado, lo cual crea condiciones anaerobicas que causan la acumulacion de materia organica al ser mas rapida que la descomposicion. Estos suelos se encuentran tipicamente en medios humedos y forman el 1% de las areas libres del hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los inceptisoles son suelos bien drenados que muestran estados iniciales de suelos de horizonte en desarrollo. Este tipo de suelo se encuentra en areas montanosa y tienen una gran productividad. Estos forman el 10% de las areas libres de hielo.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los molisoles tipicament se desarrollan en las praderas y tienen un horizonte delgado tipo organico rico en horizonte A. Este tipo de suelo es extremadamente productive debido a su saturacion de cationes Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+. Todos estas cationes son nutrients esenciales para las plantas. Este tipo de suelo forma el 7% de las areas libres de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los oxisoles se encuentran tipicamente en los tropicos y son altamente alterados quimicamente. Estos suelos son naturalmente bajos en fertilidad y altos en acididad. Son lavados (percolados) y requieren fertilizantes y una entrada de nutrients en orden de ser productivos para la agricultura. Este tipo de suelo forma el 8% de las areas libres de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los spodosoles son suelos de textura gruesa con un alto potencial de filtracion. Se localizan en los bosques de latitud norte, formandose de material arenoso piroclastico. Los componentes de Fe y Al en el suelo tienen una fuerte separacion geoquimica. Este suelo es naturalmente bajo en fertilidad y alto en acididad como los oxisoles. Este suelo requiere nutrients de entrada y fertilizantes en orden de ser productivos para la argicultura. Este tipo de suelo forma el 4% de las areas libres de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Los ultisoles se encuentran en climas calidos y humedos y tienen arcilla enriquecida en los horizontes B. Se forman a partir de material volcanico erosionado en regions mas antiguas. Los ultisoles son bajos en fertilidad natural y altos en acidez, de modo que requieren una entrada de nutrientes y fertilizantes pasa ser productivos en la agricultura. Ellos forman el 8% de las areas libres de hielo. &lt;br /&gt;

Los vertisoles muestran una conducta de hincharse – encojerse con el contenido en el cambio de agua debido a su alta concentracion de arcilla de silicato. Cuando el suelo se encoge se forman grietas profundas lo cual permite que el material se caiga. Este material entonces se incorporar en el suelo cuando el suelo se hinche de nuevo. Estos se forman tipicamente en climas calidos de caliza, bsaslto o depresiones topograficas. Los vertisoles formana el 2% de las areas libres de hielo.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
